Artists: Steve Oda | Sarod Michael Lewis - Tabla Pushpa Oda - Tanpura Raga Chandranandan is a hauntingly beautiful night raga composed by the legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Its name means “moon and joy”—a fitting tribute to the raga’s ethereal mood and meditative depth. Born from the fusion of multiple ragas, including Malkauns, Chandrakauns, and Nandkauns, Chandranandan is both timeless and modern, evoking mystery, longing, and tranquility under the moonlit sky. With its slow unfolding alaap and soul-stirring melodic arcs, the raga invites the listener into a contemplative, almost otherworldly state—a hallmark of Khansaheb’s genius. Premiered on Fri, 15 Apr 2022 at Ustad Ali Akbar Khan 100th Birth Anniversary Concert, curated by David Trasoff.
